New BCP Retail System for Haji

BCP Ltd.
Independent retailer, Haji Superstore, has invested in a modern retail IT system for its supermarket in Rochdale, Lancashire. The new system – Accord – Retailer – from Business Computer Projects Ltd, offers Haji all the benefits of modern retail technology, providing the opportunity to improve all aspects of store management and related activities, including stock control, store replenishment and customer service.

Haji Superstore, a family owned and run operation, is part of the Haji Group. Established in 1956, the Group’s other interests include cash & carry and fabric wholesaling. Haji Superstore sells a full range of standard groceries together with a wide variety of ethnic goods, specially chosen to satisfy the needs of its local customers.

The new two-lane retail system at Haji Superstore has been implemented as part of an overall modernisation and refit of the store. The system comprises Accord – Retailer’s complete point of sale and back office system. The modern GUI front end – Accord – PoS - operates on two DigiPos scanning tills with integral scales, to provide faster customer service, cash control and opportunities for in-store marketing and advertising.

The tills network to a Windows 2000 server running Accord – Back Office for product and price maintenance, ordering and stock control. Comprehensive PoS sales data generated by the system will allow Haji to improve ordering and ensure stocks are streamlined and product ranges tailored to meet customer preference, thereby further improving efficiency and customer service.

As part of the new system, Haji have invested in Piccolink RF hand held terminals. These are being used with Accord – Retailer to improve the accuracy and productivity of a range of activities, including stock counting, price verification and goods received.

Haji chose BCP’s Accord – Retailer from a range of possible systems because it offered a cost effective, flexible solution with an impressive track record in convenience retailing. Specially tailored for the supermarket and convenience sector, it required no bespoke work to meet Haji’s precise requirements. Moreover the development environment underlying the system allows it to be implemented with minimum fuss and to provide maximum resilience during operation – both decisive factors for Haji.

BCP implemented the system at Haji over the course of two days so it was up and running ready for the opening of the refitted store. Haji are delighted with the new system: “Many benefits were apparent right from the start. Others are starting to come through as we make use of the enormous amount of information generated by the system. We certainly feel we have much better control over all aspects of our activities and are giving our customers a far better service as well as operating more efficiently.”
